Music Composition Cut-and-Paste Workbook Level C | Beginner Class Workshop Curriculum for Composing a Song on the Piano | Primer Level - Off-Staff Notation

Plan a summer music composition workshop for your piano students! Composition Cut-and-Paste makes composing more fun by offering a "multiple choice" for each measure, and allowing students to get crafty along the way.

Music theory and early technique are incorporated into the creative process in Level C of the Composition Cut-and-Paste workbook. Students do not need to be able to read any notes on the staff to complete this workbook. Hands stay in the Middle C Position, and notation is Off-Staff.

This is a full curriculum designed for pre-reading or Primer Level, beginner piano students who have learned the names of the white keys and played in the Middle C Position. Other levels of Composition Cut-and-Paste are also available (Level A is black keys only. Level B is white keys (no position). Level 1 and up are on the staff.)

Purchase of this 19-page PDF workbook allows the buyer to a single studio or single classroom license. That means you are allowed to print the workbook for as many of your students as you would like! Please buy additional licenses for other teachers.

Use Composition Cut-and-Paste with:

  • a private piano student at subsequent lessons
  • a group composition ongoing weekly lesson
  • an elementary or middle school music/piano class
  • a 3- to 5-week summer composition class

Here's How Composition Cut-and-Paste Works:

1. Print the workbook single-sided and put into a 3-ring binder.
2. For each song, students will first imagine the subject of the song they would like to create.
3. They will draw a picture to depict the story.
4. They will give their song a title.
5. On the next page, students examine 12 squares, each with a quarter note or half note on one of the notes of the Middle C Position (RH or LH).
6. After labeling the finger number for each note, students will cut out all 12 squares.
6. Students get to decide the order they will play the notes.
7. And now they paste the squares onto the Paste page to create their final song.
8. They get to play their song (using any octave).
9. The workbook allows students to compose 5 songs, each with a different theme.
